“Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!” Those are the words that resounded throughout the sanctuary this past Sunday as we celebrated Easter. As the children processed in carrying flowers for the cross, the congregation sang, “Christ the Lord is Risen Today!” The children then sang an Easter version of, “Jesus Loves Me,” the words of the refrain were: “Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes Jesus loves me! Easter tells me so.” How appropriate to change one word in a song, Easter is proof in the pudding!
Over two thousand years ago, “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not parish but may have eternal life” (John 3:16). That is the basis of our hope. Just as I said in my sermon, Bill and Gloria Gaither were right on target when they wrote their song: “Because he lives, I can face tomorrow, because he lives, all fear is gone; because I know he holds the future, and life is worth the living just because he lives!”
Yes, Easter, the proof of the pudding! Because God raised Christ from the dead, we can rest assured, know matter what troubles come our way in this life, and we all experience troubles, “we can face tomorrow, and life is worth the living just because he lives!” “Christ is risen indeed!” Praise be to God!
